Boeing Lands $636M Apache Contract as Defense Business Grows

Boeing has secured a $636.11 million contract modification to expand logistics support for US Army Apache helicopter airframe repairs. This lifts the total value of the contract to roughly $1.13 billion. The modification covers support for Apache airframe components, including system components, specialized consumables, test equipment, obsolescence management and supply-chain support. Work will be carried out in Mesa, Arizona, and is expected to run through April 30, 2029. Around $506.31 million in fiscal 2026 Army working capital funds has been obligated to the program. Boeing’s defense business gains momentum The award adds to a strengthening defense pipeline for Boeing. On Aug. 14, the Pentagon announced framework agreements with Boeing and RTX aimed at increasing production of components for the Standard Missile-3 Block IIA and Block IB interceptors, which support the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense System. The Apache work also lands as Boeing shows signs of financial improvement despite continued execution risks. The company reported second-quarter revenue of $24.6 billion and generated $631 million in free cash flow, while its total backlog reached a record $715 billion. Boeing still posted a $428 million net loss, partly because of a $280 million charge tied to the delayed Air Force One replacement program. Boeing Q2 2026 results Commercial aviation is another important part of the turnaround. Boeing delivered 53 jets in July, down from 64 in June but five more than a year earlier. Earlier this month, the FAA also certified the long-delayed 737 MAX 7, which is another huge milestone as Boeing works to increase MAX production and deliveries. Boeing valuation remains in focus For investors, the latest defense award provides additional long-term government work, although Boeing’s valuation is still a point of debate. GuruFocus puts the company’s price-to-sales ratio at 1.92x, which is slightly above its historical median of 1.82x. The $636 million Apache award strengthens Boeing’s defense outlook, but the larger question for shareholders remains whether improving production, deliveries and cash generation can ultimately translate into sustained profitability.
